About this event

The SWaTH Rally Paper is a learning and fun event organized by the SWaTH Project within the Chemical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Balamand (UOB).

This completely FREE event, nationally renowned as the first of its kind in Lebanon, will take place on October 14, 2022. Numerous teams, each composed of 5 students, compete against each other, performing challenging physical quests, answering stimulating riddles, and solving testing problems, while hunting rare treasures across the UOB campus to get the highest points. SWaTH Rally Paper is known for its ability to test the students’ limits with exciting physical challenges and stimulating brain-teasing problems. The SWaTH Rally Paper has an environmental impact as it demands teams to perform eco-friendly activities such as recycling.

The SWaTH Rally Paper consists of 6 checkpoints scattered all around the main campus (Koura campus) of the University of Balamand.

  1. The SWaTH Rally paper will take place on Friday 14th of October.
  2. Participants must register their teams on Wednesday 12th of October at the latest.

  4. The exact opening time of every checkpoint will be shared with all the participants before the Rally start, and any changes will be announced on the website during the Rally Paper.

The SWaTH Rally paper is not restricted to the students of the Partner institutions. Everyone interested can participate

  1. Registration for the event should be done on the website by going to the Registration section. The deadline for registration is Wednesday 12th of October. After registering, you will receive an email confirming your registration.
  2. The registration is FREE OF CHARGE.
  3. The team made of 5 girls will have a 5% bonus.
  4. Upon registration, the team has to provide a contact person and their information.
  5. The names of the participants must be provided at the beginning of the rally. Please note that a Lebanese ID is required for each participant (or an equivalent identification document for other nationalities). We will check the names of the participants at every checkpoint.
  6. At the beginning of the Rally Paper, we will provide you with logos and stickers to decorate your stand. It is important that those stickers remain there. These are from our sponsors, and they're to help us continue organizing this Rally Paper: Your cooperation is highly appreciated.

Checkpoints, Challenges, & Trivia

  1. Every team will be given a hint at the Rally's start leading to the first checkpoint. At every next checkpoint, after the trivia and the challenge are completed, every team will be given a hint leading to the next checkpoint.
  2. Once at the checkpoint, every team must register its name on the checkpoint’s waiting list. Once the team’s name is on the waiting list, the team will have to attempt the challenge once all teams present above on the list have completed their attempts.
  3. Each team is required to be the first group to undergo a challenge and the second group on another challenge (or twice first). A failure to abide by these rules will result in a 5% deduction of the team’s overall challenges score (2.5% if one of the two is completed)
  4. All checkpoints will remain open for a duration of three hours.
  5. One hour before the closure of the checkpoint, all teams not registered on the waiting list will have a 25% deduction on their challenge and trivia results. Moreover, the exact location of the checkpoint will be revealed to them.
  6. If a team manages to arrive and attempt the challenge more than two hours before the closing of the checkpoint (i.e. in the first hour following the opening of the checkpoint), they will have a 25% bonus on their challenge and trivia results.
  7. After the closing time, no more organizers will be present at the checkpoint, and the team who missed the deadline will receive a null grade on the corresponding challenge and trivia sections.
  8. Along with the answer, every team should submit a detailed explanation.
  9. The rules and the grading of each challenge will be printed and shown at the checkpoint before participation. The theme of the trivia will be revealed at the time of arrival of the team at the checkpoint. They can thus choose a person to attempt the questions accordingly.
  10. For the trivia, the team will have to answer several questions randomly from a pool of non-repeating questions. The trivia questions will cover several themes ranging from sports to history.
  11. The trivia questions will account for 50,000 points.
  12. The challenges at the checkpoints will account for 200,000 points.

The Quest

A. Concept

The quest is a 5-riddle race, where each riddle is in a specific location. Once you solve the riddle, contact the quest organizing team via Whatsapp (NOT VIA MAIL) to let us know if you got the location right. Your message must contain two elements: the location and the explanation of how you solved the quest.

  • You will lose one token if any of these 2 items are missing in your message.
  • You will lose one token if the answer is wrong, but the explanation is correct.
  • You will lose one token if the answer and explanation are wrong.
  • If the answer is correct and the explanation is wrong, you will not lose a token and will get the chance to drive to the location. However, the next quest will not be uploaded until you provide the organizers with a reasonable explanation of why this is the correct location.
  • If the answer is correct and the location is right, you will not lose a token; you will take a selfie or a typical picture on the location site.
  • You must use the "#ErasmusDays, #swathproject, #ErasmusPlus, and #ErasmusPlus35Years" hashtags. Any wrong picture uploaded or wrong hashtags will automatically cause a 25% (2500 points) deduction per picture

B. Points System
  • The quest will have a total of 5 riddles, each riddle is worth 10,000 points, adding up to a total of 50,000 points.
  • The quest is a race, so obviously, whichever team finishes first gets the most number of points:
    1. The first team to arrive will have 20% bonus points on all the quests.
    2. The second team to arrive will have a 10% bonus.
    3. The third team to arrive will have a 5% bonus.
    4. The fourth team to arrive will have no bonus points.
    5. The fifth team to arrive will have a 5% point deduction.
    6. The sixth team to arrive will have a 10% point deduction.
    7. ...
  • If the hint for the quest you are working on is released, you lose 25% of the points
  • If you’ve been working on a quest for at least 10min and its hint has not been released, then you have the privilege of asking for a free hint. However, if you still haven’t solved the quest when the scheduled hint is released, you will suffer from a 25% point deduction.
  • If you’ve been working on the quest for more than 20 minutes, you have the right to ask for the location at a 75% point deduction.
C. Picture rules
  1. The picture must be taken at the exact specified location. Be wise, so your picture is not a hint to other teams.
  2. The picture must clearly contain the SWaTH and the Erasmusdays logos.
  3. You must use the "#ErasmusDays, #swathproject, #ErasmusPlus, and #ErasmusPlus35Years" hashtags.
  4. Any wrong picture uploaded or wrong hashtags will automatically cause a 50% point deduction on the quest in the subject, so please stay focused, sharp, and organized.
  5. If the same individual is present in all the pictures, the team will benefit from a 6% (3000 points) bonus on the totality of points.
  6. If the same GIRL is present in all the pictures, the team will benefit from an 8% (4000 points) bonus on the totality of points.
