Stakeholder Workshop

Dr. Makram El Bachawati, Dr.Wael Hamd, and Eng. Yara Nasr from the SWaTH project participated in the workshop organized by the Faculty of Public Health and the Doctoral School of Science and Technology at the Lebanese University in the framework of the AQUACYCLE project. The workshop is entitled “Towards Sustainable Treatment and Reuse of Wastewater in the Mediterranean Region” and took place at Nawfal Palace in Tripoli on March 12, 2022.

After the opening speeches, the AQUACYCLE Scientific Director explained that during the project, a 517 m2 wastewater treatment plant will be built in Deddeh El-Koura. Dr. El Bachawati appreciated the AQUACYCLE project as he is from Deddeh and as the coordinator of the SWaTH project, which deals with the sustainable treatment of hospital wastewater. He addressed the advantages of such wastewater treatments and their necessity in a country that lack sustainable solutions. Dr. Hamd also discussed the reasons for using the anaerobic digestion process and its edges with the panelists.

This workshop is the starting point for joint activities between SWaTH, AQUACYCLE, and other EU-funded projects with similar interests, concerns, and objectives.
